Guess who has a work placement this year at Australian Laboratory Services?

Recently Eliza in Year 10 was invited to come and visit ALS and learn all about what ALS do. Eliza has enrolled in the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills at the Gordon and has a strong interest in science. ALS has an amazing Chemistry, Biology and Micro Biology lab which Eliza enjoyed seeing and hearing about the work they do – mainly in the area of water testing.

The end result of the visit was Eliza has been offered a regular work placement with ALS which will complement her studies at the Gordon.

ALS are a strong supporter of the P-TECH program and once again we would like to thank them for their ongoing support.

Come From Away Musical

Come From Away Musical

Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Company took six of our Nobody’s Fool Theatre students to Melbourne to see the remarkable musical ‘Come From Away.’

In the words of one our students, Olivia:

‘Come From Away was great. The action, the songs, the energy and the accuracy was amazing. That’s exactly how I imagine people would have been at that time. At the end of the play the musicians came out and played for us, we all clapped in harmony with the music.’

It was a fantastic day out, and we came home with our buckets filled with inspiration for our own Nobody’s Fool Theatre performances.

Gastro - things to know

Gastro - things to know

Gastroenteritis (Gastro)

  • Gastroenteritis is a short-term illness triggered by the infection and inflammation of the digestive system. Symptoms can include abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
  • Some of the causes of gastroenteritis include viruses, bacteria, bacterial toxins, parasites, particular chemicals, and some drugs.
  • Good old-fashioned handwashing with soap and water is still the best defence against spreading the bug. It has been shown that hand sanitiser is not effective in killing some gastroenteritis diseases that handwashing and soap does kill.
  • Clean kitchen tops, toys, toilet seats, door handles, food utensils nappy change tables and taps to ensure you don’t spread the infection to others at home.
  • Do not share cups, water bottles or food utensils.
  • If your student, you, or anyone in your household is ill, make sure that they stay home for 48 hours after symptoms have stopped to ensure you are clear of infection.
  • Please ensure that you seek help if you are not improving or are severely unwell.
